A Family Day at Mt. Fuji: Our Usual Route
This is the route we start from. We leave at the hour you choose, and decide the order on the morning, once we can see where the weather is clear. With children, we shorten it or swap stops; that is the point of a private day.
| Stop | What you see | With children |
|---|---|---|
| Hotel lobby, Tokyo | Your guide meets you holding a “Japan Trails” sign | Child seats already fitted |
| Scenic drive | Out of the city into the countryside | Toilet and snack stops whenever needed |
| Arakurayama Sengen Park | The red Chureito pagoda with Mt. Fuji behind it | The famous view is up a long flight of steps; tell us if a pram is coming and we plan around it |
| Local lunch | Hoto, the thick noodle stew of the Fuji area | Milder dishes and small plates for children |
| Oishi Park | A lakeside flower path with Mt. Fuji across Lake Kawaguchi | Flat and open, good for running around |
| Saiko Iyashi-no-Sato Nenba | A village of thatched-roof houses with craft workshops | Hands-on crafts suit school-age children |
| Oshino Hakkai | Eight clear ponds fed by Mt. Fuji’s snowmelt | Short walk; the fish are a hit |
| Back to your hotel | Drop-off at the door | Most children sleep on the way back |

Why Families Choose a Private Car for Mt. Fuji
A driver and a guide, not one person doing both
Almost every private Fuji day is run by one person who drives and talks. Ours is two: the driver drives, and your guide is free the whole way, to answer questions, to sit with a child who has had enough, and to keep the day moving when someone needs a stop.
No bus timetable
Coach tours to Mt. Fuji move 40 or more people between the same three viewpoints. With your own car and guide, the day follows your children, not a timetable.
Door to door
No train changes with a pram and bags. We collect you from your hotel lobby and bring you back to it.
Child seats and a calm car
Seats are fitted for every child under six, as Japanese law requires. The car is yours, so naps, snacks and changes happen without anyone waiting.
Food and allergies sorted in advance
We check allergies and dietary needs with the restaurant before the day, and your guide explains them in Japanese at the table.

Questions Parents Ask About Mt. Fuji
How long is the drive from Tokyo to Mt. Fuji?
Under two hours if we leave early; up to three if we leave late in the morning. The drive back is usually 2.5 to 3 hours with traffic. The car is yours, so we stop whenever someone needs a break.
Do you provide child seats?
Yes, at no extra charge. Japanese law requires child seats for under-sixes in private cars; licensed hire cars like ours are exempt, but we fit them anyway. Tell us the ages and they are in before we arrive.
Is it worth going with young children?
Yes, if the day is planned for them. We keep the walking short, pick viewpoints you can reach without long climbs, and leave time for snacks and a rest in the car.
What if Mt. Fuji is hidden by clouds?
Cloud is beyond anyone’s control. We watch the forecast with you before the day, suggest the best departure time, and if the mountain stays hidden we spend more time on the villages, lakes and springs, which are worth the trip on their own.
When is the best time of year to see Mt. Fuji?
October to February gives the clearest views, with snow on the peak. Late March to April brings cherry blossom. Summer can be hazy.
Can we go up to the Fifth Station?
Often, but not always in winter. The Fuji Subaru Line has no fixed closing dates; snow decides how far up you can drive. In winter 2025 to 2026 the road was closed to the Fifth Station from 18 January to 18 April. We check the road status before the day and tell you before you book.
How many people fit in the car?
The price covers five guests, then US$150 for each extra guest. For larger families we bring a larger vehicle and say so in the quote.
